FBI Closes 9 Cryptocurrency Exchanges That Breached US Law

The FBI and Ukrainian authorities have conducted a joint operation against nine cryptocurrency exchanges which were suspected of money laundering. The investigations were carried out following an announcement in a press release earlier in May. As a result, the servers of 101crypta.com, 24xbtc.com, 100btc.pro, bitcoin24.exchange, uxbtc.com, pridechange.com, trust-exchange.org, paybtc.pro, and owl.gold were all closed. The FBI claims that these exchanges had “played a central role in criminal activities”. Ransomware was the hack method investigated, and these exchanges had been popular with scammers and cybercriminals. Authorities cited the exchanges’ extensive involvement in money laundering as the primary reason for the investigation. The FBI confirmed the investigations were ongoing and called on the public for support in cracking down on other criminal exchanges.
